The long-awaited UGC NET December 2025 notification has finally been released by NTA. If you’re aiming for Assistant Professor role or JRF / PhD eligibility, this is your chance — but time is tight. In this article, we’ll walk you through all the essential dates, eligibility conditions, application steps, and tips to avoid mistakes. (Make sure to bookmark this page or subscribe to our updates — we’ll keep you informed as the process unfolds.)

What is UGC NET?

The National Testing Agency (NTA), entrusted by the University Grants Commission (UGC), conducts the UGC-NET to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Assistant Professor roles as well as Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor positions in Indian universities and colleges. Since December 2018, the UGC-NET has been conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, ensuring a streamlined and transparent examination process.

The award of JRF and/or eligibility for Assistant Professorship depends on the candidate’s aggregate performance in Paper-I and Paper-II. Candidates qualifying only for Assistant Professorship are not eligible for JRF. Those who qualify for Assistant Professor eligibility are governed by the rules of the respective universities, colleges, or state governments for recruitment purposes.

Conducted twice a year (June & December), the UGC-NET ensures a regular examination cycle. For example, the UGC NET December 2023 session was conducted in 83 subjects across selected cities nationwide, reflecting its wide-scale and standardized approach.

Why This Notification Matters

  • UGC NET is India’s benchmark for evaluating eligibility for Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in colleges and universities.

  • The December session is critical — a single miss can delay one full cycle.

  • Early application ensures you avoid last-minute server load issues, mistakes, or confusion over document uploads.
