Admission & Application Process

Application process for MSE MA Economics

Apply through the MSE Website: All candidates must register for the MSE-conducted entrance test for admission to the MA Economics programme. Entrance Exam & Interview: The Entrance Exam is usually conducted in May each year. There is No Interview conducted after being shortlisted.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibilty

Mathematics Requirement: Applicants should have studied Mathematics at 10+2 level or higher. Qualifying Degree: a) Undergraduate degree in social sciences (including commerce & management),sciences, or engineering (including those who are appearing for their final yearexams in the AY 2026 ).b) The eligible candidates must secure at least an under-graduation level: 55% for Generalcategory; 50% for OBC – Non Creamy Layer; 45% for SC/ST/PWD candidates.c) The eligible candidates should not have completed 25 years as of 1st July 2026 Provisional Admission: Admission is provisional until the submission of final official mark sheets of the qualifying degree.

Course Fees, Seats and Hostel Facility

Seats Available: The intake under each of the five M.A. Programs is 47, including a 35% quota for the resident students of Tamil Nadu. Course Fees: General Category Students: The total fees per semester constitute Rs. 1,21,341/- as semester fee and Rs. 30,000/- towards infrastructure development fee. Additionally, students must pay a one-time admission fee of Rs. 5,000/-, which is non-refundable. SC/ST Category Students: The total fees per semester constitute Rs. 97,073/- as semester fee and Rs. 30,000/- towards infrastructure development fee. Additionally, students must pay a one-time admission fee of Rs. 5,000/-, which is non-refundable. Hostel Facilities: Hostel accommodation is available for both boys and girls.

The entrance test consists of 2 parts: Part A (compulsory) and Part B (choose between Mathematics/Statistics stream and Economics stream). Total number of questions: 100 (Part A: 60, Part B: 40). Part-A: Basic Quantitative Ability: 20 questions Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning: 20 questions. Reading Comprehension: 20. questions Total: 60 questions Part-B: (Mathematics/Statistics Stream): Advanced Mathematics: 20 questions. Advanced Statistics: 20 questions.
