DU Semester 2 — Linear algebra, matrix theory, multivariable calculus, convexity, and constrained/unconstrained optimisation.

Course Syllabus

  • Vector Spaces: algebraic and geometric properties, scalar products, norms, and orthogonality
  • Linear Transformations: properties, matrix representation, and elementary operations
  • Systems of Linear Equations: properties of solution sets and determinants
  • Advanced Matrix Theory: eigenvalues, eigenvectors, diagonalization, and spectral theorem
  • Geometric Representation: graphs and level curves for multivariable functions
  • Differentiable Functions: characterization, properties under operations, and economic applications
  • Second Order Derivatives and the Implicit Function Theorem for comparative statics
  • Convexity Analysis: convex sets and geometric properties of convex/quasi-convex functions
  • Unconstrained Optimization: geometric characterization and calculus-based methods
  • Economic Applications: consumer theory and production analysis using optimization tools
