DU Semester 2 — Linear algebra, matrix theory, multivariable calculus, convexity, and constrained/unconstrained optimisation.
Course Syllabus
- Vector Spaces: algebraic and geometric properties, scalar products, norms, and orthogonality
- Linear Transformations: properties, matrix representation, and elementary operations
- Systems of Linear Equations: properties of solution sets and determinants
- Advanced Matrix Theory: eigenvalues, eigenvectors, diagonalization, and spectral theorem
- Geometric Representation: graphs and level curves for multivariable functions
- Differentiable Functions: characterization, properties under operations, and economic applications
- Second Order Derivatives and the Implicit Function Theorem for comparative statics
- Convexity Analysis: convex sets and geometric properties of convex/quasi-convex functions
- Unconstrained Optimization: geometric characterization and calculus-based methods
- Economic Applications: consumer theory and production analysis using optimization tools
